HALLELUJAH!
We celebrate our Lord Jesus at this end of this Easter season.
Now that we have been through Lent, how did you do? Did you succeed with your lenten resolutions? Are you going to
keep them? Did you feel you were suffering or did you give up something you didn’t like anyway? Instead of giving up
something did you say the rosary, go to church and spend an hour with Jesus.

THE NEXT THING ON THE CHURCH CALENDAR IS PENTECOST. 40 DAYS AFTER LENT. WHERE THE HOLY SPIRIT COMES DOWN FROM HEAVEN IN THE FORM OF TONGUES OF FIRE ONTO THE APOSTLES OF JESUS.

VARIOUS VOYAGES TO ENGLAND IN THE IN THE INTEREST OF HIS ABBEY MADE ST. ANSELM KNOWN IN THAT COUNTRY, AND IN 1093 HE SUCCEEDED HIS OLD MASTER, LANFRANC, AS ARCHBISHOP OF CANTERBEURY. HIS RESISTANCE TO THE UNJUST MEASURES OF KING WILLIAM RUFUS DREW UPON HIM THE ANGER OF THAT MONARCH. DURING HIS TRAVELS THE SAINT COMPOSED SEVERAL OF HIS METAPHYSICAL WORKS, AND RETURN TO HIS SEE UNTIL AFTER THE DEATH OF KING WILLIAM RUFUS IN 1100. DIFFERENCES WITH THE NEW KING CAUSED HIM TO UNDERTAKE A SECOND JOURNEY TO ROME IN 1103, AND PASCAL II UPHELD THE AUTHORITY OF THE ARCHBISHOP AS HIS. PREDECESSOR, URBAN II, HAD DONE. HE RETURNED TO ENGLAND IN 1106 AND DIED IN 1109.

HE WAS ALSO A STRENUOUS DEFENDER OF THE RIGHTS OF THE CHURCH AGAINST THE USURPATION OF KINGS.
PRAYERS; GOD, YOU CALLED ST. ANSELM, YOUR BISHOP, TO STUDY AND TEACH THE SUBLIME TRUTHS OF YOUR WISDOM. LET YOUR GIFT OF FAITH COME TO THE AID OF OUR UNDERSTANDING AND OPEN OUR HEARTS TO YOUR TRUTH. AMEN

If they are wound and suffering, give them comfort. If they are lonely, touch them with you gentle hand and let them know that you are near them.
And if it be your holy will that they should give up their lives for us, grant them a peaceful death and a home with you in heaven.
Hasten the day, dear Lord, when we may all enjoy the blessings of peace once more. Amen
